WaWCall of Duty: World at War was released in November 2008 and instantly became a hit like its predecessors. It featured very fast paced combat, both online and off, set in a World War 2 related timeline. One new feature that was adopted, which was never as prominent in earlier Call of Duty games, is a more mature theme. WaW includes more intense violence, which is intended to portray just how the real war was. Graphic and bloody.

Treyarch, the development team for WaW, also included a nice bonus game called Nazi Zombies for those who finished the game, which pitted players against an endless horde of undead Nazis. This added an incredible amount of replayability on top of the amazing online multiplayer achievement system.

Nazi zombie mode did get old after some time, as there is only one map available, but thankfully that has changed.

This month had the release of the first downloadable content for World at War which featured four brand new maps; three of which were for online multiplayer and local multiplayer games and one brand new Nazi zombie map.

The three standard multiplayer maps are Station, Knee Deep, and Nightfire, which all respectively add more options for online and local versus matches. Station drops players into an underground subway station that has been destroyed completely by warfare. Knee Deep introduces players to a tropical island setting and is much larger, which means it is designed for the larger gaming modes, such as War and large Team Deathmatches. Nightfire mirrors a destroyed Berlin, or more urban setting, all in the dark as the name implies.

The final map included in the DLC is “Verruckt (Zombie Asylum)” and provides players with so much more than just endless hordes of zombies on a new map. Treyarch also introduces the use of perks, which were originally included in standard versus multiplayer games, through special vending machines set up throughout the level. Players also have the option to arm electrical defenses and scattered vending machines by turning the power on within the asylum. The Verruckt map is much more intense than its predecessor Nacht Der Untoten, as zombies get faster and stronger in earlier rounds.

The DLC can be purchased on XBOX live and the Playstation Network provided you have a complimentary account. The PC version will not be included in the release as of this date but will be included mostly due to the fact that PC users can take advantage of user created mods.
