Ready To Drop?!

HALO ODSTAs you (hopefully) know, Halo 3: ODST was release on September 22.  As a true and loyal Halo fan, I ventured into Best Buy and bought it.

Well, Halo 3: ODST rocked my world!  I thought it was very well crafted and had fluid gameplay.  First of all, I was amazed about how they managed to turn what was supposed to be an add-on pack into a separate game!  Instead of two hours of play time, you get at least six hours!  You also get firefight mode and the mythic disk, which rule!

Halo 3: ODST requires more thinking and strategy than before.  As an ODST, you are not a walking tank.  Avoid frontal confrontation at all costs and stick to sniping and grenades (you can carry three of each type).  You have to be more careful because you have a wimpy shield and need health packs to recharge health.  Now, Halo 3: ODST really returns to the Halo series basics.  There is no duel wielding, you move like the Halo: Combat Evolved Master Chief, and the Halo: CE pistol has returned!

The plot is serious, well thought out, and complex.  You begin as a group of ODSTs about to make a drop onto the Covenant Profit of Regent’s ship.  The team enters their pods and drop through the atmosphere toward the ship; at the last minute, Dare changes their trajectory to miss the carrier. The Covenant ship enters slipspace, sending a shockwave toward the ODSTs; the Rookie’s pod collides with another and crashes to the ground, knocking him out for six hours.  He awakens and goes on to find clues as to what happened to his squad. Along the way, he discovers clues and evidence of his squad’s adventure while he was unconscious.

As for the squad…Buck awakens after the drop and fights through Covenant to find Dare. When he arrives at her pod he finds only her burn and damaged helmet (note…, is that a recon armor helmet?).  Romeo saves Buck from an Engineer (new alien species), and the two work their way through the city. Dutch lands near a nature preserve and helps Marines while he heads toward the city. Mickey commandeers a tank and fights his way along a Mombasa boulevard…

My only major beef with this is the weaponry.  This happens during Halo 2, but there are no battle rifles, and there are assault rifles.

Halo 3: ODST is an excellent edition to the Halo series!
