I always have loved to play Nintendo’s racing game Mario Kart. I started playing with the Nintendo 64 version, and I always was sad when I had to leave my friend’s house because we didn’t own a Nintendo 64. Then, when my family bought a GameCube, I conquered the Double Dash version. However, for some reason I’ve always held a love for the older version of the game, its levels, and how you can turn into a bomb during the battle mode of the game.
However, on April 27th, 2008, Mario Kart for the Wii was released in North America! One thing that I love about this version is that you can play all of the older Mario Kart levels! It’s like a dream come true! There are 32 tracks altogether; 16 from the old games and 16 new. Of course, the Wii version offers many more new levels and exciting animations. For instance, there are new items available, such as the Mega Mushroom that allows the character to grow and flatten opposing characters. One of the new features is the ability to slipstream, or go behind a player to reduce drag as bike racers do!
Love to play in Battle mode? Well, now there are ten battlefields, five old and five new, and fun new games such as Coin Runner or Balloon Battle. Another cool thing is that 12 racers can be on the tracks, as opposed to 8.
Another great feature about this game is that it has the ability for you to play people from around the world via the online Wii system. There are online competitions, battles, and more. This is only available for the Wii!
It’s a ton of fun, and if you buy it new, it’s about $50 and when you buy the game, it comes with a Wii Wheel! Definitely worth it!
