Independent Games Festival 2010

July 29th, 2009 by Bea

independent games festivalLooking up some of the most recent news in the gaming world, I stumbled upon something that may be of interest to our gamers out there.

It has to do with the Annual Independent Games Festival, ever heard of it? Well, in case you have not, the 12th Annual Independent Games Festival, commonly abbreviated to IGF, has announced recently that they are now open for submissions.

Some changes have been made to the program. For instance, while last year’s prize was the $30,000 Seamus McNally Grand Prize, it is now $20,000. With the economy and all, I guess that this is to be expected in today’s society. Another change is that they are going to have twice as many judges as last time–perhaps that is where the other $10,000 is going (just kidding). But on a serious note, the increase in the amount of judges will allow each individual game entry to be played in a more thorough manner that will, in turn, let people show off their games even further. A change that has to do with the judges in specific is that the once optional choice of providing feedback about games has now become a mandatory task to perform after reviewing each game.

The independent games festival is going to be held in San Francisco, California, this year. The dates of the festival are from March 9th until March 13th. The Independent Games Festival Awards are held alongside the Game Developers Choice Awards, and both award shows are part of the 2010 Game Developers Conference. The Independent Games Festival is an event that has helped to recognize the best and brightest indie game developers and their games.

In order to get involved with this Independent Games Festival next year, you have to pay an entry fee of $95. Submissions are due November 1st, 2009.
