The highly anticipated Guitar Hero: World Tour is finally out in stores. I can’t wait to try it out, because this is more than just a sequel in the Guitar Hero series: it’s a rebirth. What’s so new about it?
- Music- Of course we all expect a new set-list, but World Tour has more than ever before. I’m excited to play the songs from artists I already know, (like Coldplay, Blink-182, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Eat World), but I’m even more interested in the list of songs by artist I don’t know. Based on the game’s history, there’s a good chance I’ll like many of the songs and learn about some great bands I didn’t know about before. Unlike some of the previous games, none of these songs are covers; they are all master tracks.
- Studio- This is one of the huge changes from the past versions of Guitar Hero- you can compose your own songs! As a musician, this opportunity is certainly intriguing. I’ll be able to hear my own masterpieces come to life! (Okay, maybe my composition skills aren’t that great, but the studio will definitely allow for some great fun!)
- Gear- World Tour comes with a new-and-improved guitar, but more importantly, a drum kit and microphone. “Hey, they copied Rock Band!” So what? Rock Band is a superb game; World Tour is just building on the idea. The drum kit for World Tour is better than its predecessors and even has “crash cymbals”.
- Customizations – I personally don’t have a preference as to which character I play, but for those that do, World Tour had no intention of short-handing you. World Tour has literally thousands of possible combinations for clothing and gear. You can even create your own band logo!
The downside of this game is, of course, the high price, but I’m guessing that it’ll be worth it. There are so many songs, and especially with the new studio, the possibilities for fun seem endless.
