The release date has not been physically set in stone yet, aside from a broad “late 2009″ tag, but the various game demos and videos show a very promising return of one of the oldest action games in the RPG genre. All it takes is a few brief minutes to sit down and watch the video featured on the official Diablo 3 website, and fanboys will most certainly fall in love with the upcoming release.

The game is so similar, yet at the same time so different than the originals (Diablo, Diablo 2). The same exact action RPG scheme and quick movement through dark dungeons has returned but with many fresh twists. The developers have created an all new set of character classes completely different in many ways than the original classes in an attempt to offer a brand new twist to the series. The Barbarian class from Diablo 2 has been brought back, however, it has been completely revamped.

This time around players can utilize the environment to their advantage and scroll through a large variety of intense and powerful skills/spells. One great example includes the Barbarian’s ground smash, which unleashes a ferocious area effect earthquake that takes down enemies nearby.

Another new feature includes a more advanced co-op system. As many fans remember, players of the original series had to take the game online to play with a vast community. This time around players can join in large or small parties in the middle of almost any game, and the joining features have been made increasingly simple to allow friends to drop in and out of games at will.

The developers also claim to have made the game strategies much more complex just like the battle system. One of the weaknesses of the original games included an almost never-ending supply of potions and portal scrolls, which allowed characters to remain nearly invincible. In the new game the developers have given access to few amounts of those items to ensure players are required to use the strengths of their chosen character class to remain alive.

The third game in the series will provide many more hours of monster smashing fun (now in 3D!) just like the originals and will be embraced by the fans with open arms as a great update to the genre.
