Comfort in Controllers

by Jason Lightner January 11th, 2012 | General Gaming News
I'm a big fan of podcasts. I'm subscribed to a fair amount, and I typically listen to them on my long drives between Baltimore and Philadelphia. A recent episode of Hypercritical, titled "Pinching the Harmonica," got me to thinking about a subject that I hadn't really thought about in a long time – game controllers.

For the uninitiated, Hypercritical is a weekly talk show hosted by Dan Benjamin and John Siracusa on the 5by5 network. The whole premise of the show is that nothing is so perfect that it is without complaint. On this particular show, Siracusa turned his

Nintendo Posts Loss Amid Falling Revenue

by Jason Lightner November 16th, 2011 | General Gaming News
On October 27, Nintendo posted their financial report for the first six months of their fiscal year, and it's not looking good. They reported a net loss of US $923 million within the first six months of the fiscal year. Ouch!

Nintendo, who has been in the video game industry since 1974, has had yet to report an annual loss since they began reporting their numbers in 1981. Portal was first released in 2007 by Valve Software. Portal 2 came out earlier this year and posted high sales as fans returned for more. The basic idea is that utilizing a portal gun, you can create holes that allow you to travel to previously unreachable areas. Throw in some tasks, create a story line, and you get a fun action/adventure game.

Effects of a Massive Scale

by Jacob P. August 22nd, 2011 | General Gaming News
The world may be hyped up over Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, but below the veil of over-obsessed first person shooter fans sits a complex, exciting game.  On March 6, 2012, Mass Effect 3 will be released.  With that release, one of the best stories ever woven in video game history will be brought to a close.

I know my articles are often about first person shooters, but I am actually a sucker for the Mass Effect series.  Shooters are fun to play with friends, but in general, their stories are only so-so.  On the other hand, Mass Effect is
