Dolphin Emulator Rides Waves of Epic Win

by Jason Lightner January 27th, 2012 | Console Games, Wii
It's been a long time since I've been excited about console emulation. Back in the late 90s I was an avid participant in the scene, writing for one of Zophar's old rivals and testing various emulators for developers. My typical haunts were the different gaming and emulation-related channels on DALnet, EFnet, and Undernet. For the uninitiated, console emulation is the act of being able to run console video games on a system other than the one the game was originally meant to run on by using software to mimic the hardware of the original

Grand Theft Auto – Still Not for Kids

by Jason Lightner December 28th, 2011 | Console Games
It's hard to believe that it's been over ten years since Rockstar Games released their free-roaming hit Grand Theft Auto III on the Playstation 2. To celebrate, Rockstar has released a port for iOS and Android that breathes a bit of new life into the game with new touchscreen controls and updated graphics. It's definitely a charmer.

The Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series has come a long way since its inception on the Playstation One in 1997. Originally a top down, mission-driven game, GTA put players in the role of a career-criminal and sent them on mission after

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus

by Jason Lightner December 14th, 2011 | Console Games
One more suggestion for the holidays. If you're a fan of great games (and if you aren't, why are you reading this?): The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection was released for Playstation 3 back in September, and it's as great as you'd imagine.

The collection's two games, both redone with enhanced HD graphics and effects, shows that a good game, is a good game, is a good game. This is why I'm such a fan of the classics – you simply can't argue with a good experience.

Back when Ico was first released on the Playstation One,

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

by Jason Lightner October 31st, 2011 | Console Games
As a man, few things in life make me smile like when my girlfriend decides she's going to do something that's not quite so girly. A few evenings ago, she did just that. Somehow she managed to catch a television airing of Resident Evil: Apocalypse. A while ago I'd lent her some of S.D. Perry's Resident Evil novelizations as she's more the reading type. She got through nearly three of them before life got in the way. After watching the movie, my girlfriend asked me if there were any other movies, and then wanted to know if she could

Gears of War 3

by Bea September 28th, 2011 | Console Games
After much waiting, one of the most anticipated games of 2011 was finally released on September 20th. It was supposed to come out in April of this year, but perhaps it was worth the wait. Over one million pre-orders were made for this game.

Gears of War 3 is the final game within the series, and from what I have heard, it's a good one. The story line is actually based on a book series. The novels are written by science fiction author, Karen Traviss. I wonder if she knew that her story was going to be made into a
