Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

CoD6It has been said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, more succinctly referred to as CoD 6 (Call of Duty 6), was the most anticipated video game in history. The countdown began months ago, and the date, 11/10/09, finally arrived. In the past week, CoD has been working its way toward becoming the most successful launch in the history of entertainment. That means it reportedly has earned more money than any movie, album, or other game ever. The expected half-a-billion dollar intake in the first week does not by any means seem out of reach, with sales in the US and UK totaling $310 million after just 24 hours. The game hit the racks at a pricey $60, and that is without any add-ons, but that doesn’t seem to stop buyers.

Unlike most stand-alone military shooter games, CoD6 is a sequel and continues a plot started in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In the campaign mode, the player finds him/herself picking up the plot five years after the original left off. The mission is to take out Russian terrorist Vladimir Makarov and his cells scattered about the globe. The plot is complex, and the visuals are stunning. Activision featured live actors in order to make it as realistic as possible. Some complain that the campaign is too short, lasting just 6-8 hours, but most players are too busy enjoying the new co-op missions or the impressive multi-player settings. You can play with friends or against the thousands of thousands of other players; you’ll never run out of opponents.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is not a game for everyone. It is rated as Mature, geared for those at or above the age of 17 due to its very realistic portrayal of modern military violence. If you ask someone who plays what he or she does in the game, the answer will more nearly be, “You try to kill the other people.” If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then neither is the game. However, if you have not tried the Call of Duty series yet, but enjoy military shooter games, this game will bring you ultimate satisfaction.
