It is the year of the blockbuster return. Why exactly?

We have several great additions to already existing games coming out this year, and there is almost no doubt that the sequels will be huge hits as well.

Bioshock 2, the hit sequel to the classic underwater city/ horror game franchise is back. This time you take complete control of a Big Daddy, one of the big guys in an old style underwater suit. The sequel takes place ten years after the first, and the main enemy is known as The Big Sister (A female hybrid of a big daddy and little sister who is very agile). Apparently the return to rapture will be much different this time around. The Big Sister has kidnapped girls from all over to become Little Sisters in an attempt to rebuild rapture the way she remembers. When this game comes out sometime at the end of the year anticipate big sales.

Assassins Creed 2 will be out as well. Taking after the first and expanding on the history of the fictional assassin and templar war throughout the ages, Assassins Creed 2 picks up right where the first left off. In the sequel, however, the timeline is late Renaissance, and players will take control of a completely different assassin who will leap, bound, and hunt in Florence, Italy. The game has received upgrades, such as the addition of an extra hidden blade (now there’s two, one for each hand) and the ability to swim (in the first you could not), which also integrates an extra hiding spot in tense situations. Players can now dive into the canal water for a getaway. The story, of course, will bring back the main character from the first, Desmond, and should provide some answers and even more questions to the plot-line as Abstergo pries Desmond’s brain for his ancestor’s memories.

The hit horror movie franchise, SAW, will return but not as another movie…as a fully playable video game. Players will take control of a victim trapped in a large scale puzzle set up by jigsaw and will have to interact with other victims, some sane and some not so much, in order to get free. Full integration of some movie puzzles will make appearances, too, like the shotgun rigged door, or bear claw head covering mechanism. This one isn’t due out until October, however.

Several other franchise returns include Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, Diablo III, Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena, Uncharted 2, and many more.

Keep your eyes peeled this year for the blockbuster returns, and make sure you save up your money for each one. They all appear to be amazing.
