A deranged psychopath haunts the streets at night, adorned in white face paint and red lipstick. His hair gleams in the moonlight, and a faint green tint is visible in the darkness. Then without warning a dark figure drops down nearby, his mask formed in the shape of a bat. A shrill and eerie voice breaks the silence, “Why so serious?” followed by insane fits of laughter.
The Dark Knight was a huge milestone for comic to film adaptations. It showed once and for all that comics can hold great story lines as well, so long as the right person translates them to film. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker completely outshined any stereotypes fans had put on him before the film’s release. Unfortunately, with his passing it closed doors for future films starring the painted vigilante.
Batman and Joker, however, may do it again, on their own. This time both return in a much anticipated video game titled Batman: Arkham Asylum.
In the opening of the trailer Batman finally hs captured the Joker and is en route to Arkham Asylum, the famed prison known for housing some of the most crazed villains. But all is not as it seems, for once Joker is completely inside he breaks free of his shackles and takes off into the building. It appears the crazed Joker planned his entire capture. The rest of the trailer shows the painted menace wreaking havoc on the compound after releasing all the baddies on Batman.
The game centers around this concept: Batman fighting it out against some of his most formidable opponents inside the very asylum he locked them up in. The end of the trailer even shows a small tease: Bane (the man who once broke Batman’s back) looking as horrifying as ever throwing Batman through a brick wall.
The trailer also shows off some of the combat and stealth dynamics implemented into the game, which look just as amazing. This game surely will be another milestone for the Dark Knight, as he gets another successful adaptation from his comic page origins.
If you care to check out the trailer and other intriguing game aspects, Eidos and Rocksteady have shown everything off on the official site which can be found HERE.
